Recent information from Envirotech
"The 2026 growing season is fast approaching and spring algae blooms are starting to emerge! Virtually all stormwater management ponds are beginning to experience spring algae blooms which are influenced by a multitude of natural factors. Algae populations share a direct relationship (positive correlation) with available sunlight, water temperatures, and available nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. These factors are exacerbated during the spring and summer as air/water temperatures and total hours of sunlight (UV exposure) increase."
"The pollen season also contributes to the spring algae bloom as pollen primarily consists of nitrogen and phosphorus rich hydrocarbon chains which provide food for algae populations to grow. It is common for stormwater ponds to experience noticeable pollen accumulation during the spring season as pollen is comprised of hydrophobic molecules which allow the yellow substance to float on pond surface water for several weeks before dissipating naturally."
"Furthermore, seasonal lawn care activities such as the application of nitrogen/phosphorus rich fertilizers and lawn care supplements also contribute to spring algae blooms as up to 85% of all applied fertilizers enter stormwater management facilities."
"Envirotech ... is constantly monitoring community stormwater ponds in order to provide effective proactive and reactive nuisance algae treatment services."
